Emma Zhang, an experienced hardware developer at TONMIND, specializes in designing high-quality IP paging microphones. Her work ensures that our products deliver crystal-clear audio performance across various applications.

As IP paging and public address systems continue to expand into factories, schools, warehouses, offices and outdoor facilities, network connectivity is not always available exactly where audio equipment needs to be installed. Running new Ethernet cables across a large site can increase both installation time and project cost.

The Tonmind SIP-T22W WiFi Paging Adapter offers another approach. By combining IP audio functions with 2.4 GHz WiFi connectivity, the device allows traditional analog speakers and audio equipment to become part of an IP-based paging system while supporting more flexible network deployment. Its two wireless operating modes-Station Mode and Access Point Mode-allow installers to choose the network structure that best suits each project.

Connecting Analog Audio Equipment to IP Networks

SIP-T22W is designed as a compact gateway between conventional audio equipment and modern IP communication systems.

A built-in 15W amplifier enables an analog speaker to connect directly to the adapter without requiring a separate amplifier for many small paging applications. The unit also provides microphone input, headset output and speaker output, making it suitable for paging, background music and two-way audio communication.

For integration with network systems, T22W supports SIP and ONVIF, allowing it to work with SIP servers, IP PBX platforms, SIP phones, VMS and NVR systems. It also provides functions such as RTP Multicast, prerecorded audio playback, scheduled broadcasting, GPIO input, relay output and HTTP URL triggering. The device can be powered by PoE or DC 12V depending on the deployment method.

Station Mode: Use an Existing WiFi Network

In Station Mode (STA), SIP-T22W operates as a wireless client and joins an existing WiFi network.

After the installer enters the WiFi SSID and password through the device's web interface, the T22W can communicate with other devices on the same IP network, including SIP servers, PBX systems, PA management software and other network endpoints. This allows the adapter to operate wirelessly without requiring an Ethernet cable to reach its installation position.

A typical setup can be simplified as:

WiFi Router → Wireless Network → SIP-T22W → Analog Speaker

This arrangement is particularly useful when WiFi coverage is already available but installing additional network cables would be difficult. For example, in a large warehouse, an analog speaker may be positioned far from the main network cabinet. T22W can connect through the site's wireless network and use its built-in amplifier to drive the speaker locally.

This makes Station Mode practical for warehouses, factories, campuses, churches, retail stores, offices and temporary installations where reducing cabling is an important consideration.

Access Point Mode: Create a Local WiFi Hotspot

SIP-T22W can also operate in Access Point Mode (AP).

Instead of connecting to an existing wireless router, the adapter creates its own WiFi hotspot. Nearby laptops, smartphones, computers and other compatible network devices can then connect directly to the wireless network generated by T22W.

The AP mode supports connections from up to 11 devices, providing a convenient local wireless network for applications where an additional access point is not readily available.

The connection structure can be represented as:

Network → SIP-T22W → WiFi Hotspot → Laptop / Smartphone / Network Device

This function can be useful in outdoor facilities, large industrial spaces, temporary installations and other locations where local network access needs to be extended around the paging equipment.

One Adapter for Different Network Environments

The advantage of the dual-mode design is that installers do not need to rely on one fixed wireless topology.

When a project already has reliable WiFi coverage, Station Mode allows T22W to join that network as a wireless IP audio endpoint. When local wireless access is needed, Access Point Mode allows the adapter to create its own hotspot for nearby devices.

This flexibility can simplify installation in projects where network conditions vary between different areas of the same site.

More Than a WiFi Audio Gateway

Wireless connectivity is only one part of SIP-T22W. The combination of a 15W amplifier, SIP and ONVIF support, audio interfaces, alarm I/O and network triggering functions allows the adapter to support multiple IP audio and security applications.

For example, it can be connected to an analog ceiling speaker or horn speaker for SIP paging, receive announcements from an IP phone, play scheduled or prerecorded messages, participate in RTP multicast broadcasting, or use GPIO, relay and HTTP URL functions for integration with alarms and other systems.

Flexible Deployment for Modern IP Paging

Tonmind SIP-T22W provides a practical way to upgrade existing analog audio equipment without completely replacing the speaker infrastructure. By combining traditional speaker connectivity with modern SIP communication and WiFi networking, it can help simplify the transition toward IP-based paging.

Whether used in a factory, warehouse, school, office, church, commercial building or outdoor facility, the two WiFi modes give system integrators more options when Ethernet cabling is limited or inconvenient.

With Station Mode for connecting to existing WiFi and Access Point Mode for creating a local hotspot, SIP-T22W offers a flexible solution for building scalable IP paging and audio communication systems.
